Quartus Programmer detects Agilex 7 AGFA014R24B device as AGFA014R24A - Quartus Programmer detects Agilex 7 AGFA014R24B device as AGFA014R24A
Hi, In our board we are using two Altera devices: • Max10 10M04SAU324I7G • Agilex 7F AGFA014R24B1E1V When JTAG chain "Auto Detect" option is applied in Quartus Programmer, Max10 device is detected as "10M04SA", but Agilex 7F is detected as AGFA014R24A. Warning message "Programming file selected contains device AGFA014R24B which is incompatible with target device AGFA014R24A in device chain" appears when programming sof file is applied. Is it a normal behavior? Should I just ignore it and program the file, or there is some difference between the devices? I could not find any mention of AGFA014R24A variant on Altera site. Is it just a software bug of Programmer? Thanks, Mark

Hello Mark, This is smartVID device, Production unit, not ES unit. I can confirm with the top marking on the device. Please make sure you set the voltage setup correctly for the device power up successfully. something like this : https://docs.altera.com/r/docs/683752/current/agilextm-7-fpga-f-series-transceiver-soc-development-kit-user-guide/adding-smartvid-settings-in-quartus-prime-qsf-file regards, Farabi

Hi Mark, guessing autodetect might be faulty. Did you try as suggested before? Regards Frank Load .sof file for AGFA014R24B and try to program. Can it successfully programmed?

Hello Farabi, I have tried with Quartus 25.3.1 Programmer. Same result: This version detects the device as AGFA014R24AR1. (R1 added at the end vs version 25.1.0) My concern is that there were difference in reference voltage for some pins (1.8V / 1.2V) between ES and production devices. I would like to insure that device I am using is not an ES. Thanks, Mark

Hello, Are you able to try on Quartus 25.1.1? Only use the standalone Quartus Programmer, no need license. regards, Farabi

Re: Quartus Programmer detects Agilex 7 AGFA014R24B device as AGFA014R24A
Thanks Farabi, Did not succeed to program it yet. Some issue with Smart VID handshaking with DC/DC. Working on it. The number printed on FPGA is AGFA014R24B1E1V: Quartus version is 25.1.0 (not 25.1.1) with patch 0.36 Could it be the problem? JTAG IDCODE (detected via Corelis JTAG test) is "1100 0011010000011010 00001101110 1" which matches AGFA014R24B https://docs.altera.com/r/docs/683748/current/agilextm-7-jtag-boundary-scan-testing-user-guide/agilextm-7-bst-operation-control Mark

Hello, Could you try below? 1- Load .sof file for AGFA014R24B and try to program. Can it successfully programmed? 2- Can you see the part number printed on the FPGA? Is it the printed as AGFA014R24B or else? 3- Please make sure you use latest Quartus version. 25.1.1 and beyond. regards, Farabi - 2026-01-20
