Requesting FPGA-Based Replacement for Discontinued 72V251 (8K x 9 Synchronous FIFO) - Requesting FPGA-Based Replacement for Discontinued 72V251 (8K x 9 Synchronous FIFO)
Hello, I am currently working on a design that originally used the IDT 72V251 , which is an 8K x 9 synchronous FIFO . Since this device has been discontinued, I am exploring alternatives, preferably using FPGA-based implementation . My requirements are as follows: FIFO size: 8192 x 9 bits , synchronous operation Operating voltage: 3.3V I/O signaling standard: CMOS / LVCMOS 3.3V , compatible with the original 72V251 Preferably a solution with a readily available FIFO IP core that can be quickly integrated If available, I’d also appreciate any reference designs or evaluation kits that can help speed up development Could you kindly recommend a suitable FPGA device and IP solution that meets these requirements? Thank you for your support! Best regards,

Hi, We recommend using an Intel MAX 10 or Cyclone V FPGA, both of which support 3.3V LVCMOS I/O and can easily implement an 8192 x 9 synchronous FIFO using Intel’s FIFO IP core. The development kits and comprehensive documentation are readily available to support quick integration and migration from the discontinued IDT 72V251. Refer below: Reference:: MAX10 Development Kit: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/details/fpga/development-kits/max/10m50.html MAX10 Handbook: https://cdrdv2.intel.com/v1/dl/getContent/766323?explicitVersion=true&wapkw=max%2010%20handbook Cyclone V Handbook: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/docs/programmable/683375/current.html?wapkw=cyclone%20v%20datasheet Regards, Aqid

Hi, For FIFO IP, you may use FIFO Intel FPGA IP check screenshot: For the suitable device, will get you answer later. Thanks, Regards, Sheng - 2025-07-31
