2.3. Installing the Intel HLS Compiler Pro Edition for Cyclone V Device Support - Cyclone V support in the Intel HLS Compiler Pro Edition requires Quartus Prime Standard Edition or Quartus Prime Lite Edition. - 2025-12-15

Cyclone^® V support in the Intel^® HLS Compiler Pro Edition requires Quartus^® Prime Standard Edition or Quartus^® Prime Lite Edition.

Quartus^® Prime Standard and Lite Editions Version 23.1std do not include the Intel^® HLS Compiler. You must add Intel^® HLS Compiler Pro Edition Version 24.1 to your Quartus^® Prime installation.

You have the following options to include the Intel^® HLS Compiler Version 24.1 in your Quartus^® Prime Standard Edition Version 23.1std or Quartus^® Prime Lite Edition Version 23.1std installation:

• Upgrade or add the Intel^® HLS Compiler installation in your Quartus^® Prime installation:
  1. Download the Intel^® High Level Synthesis Compiler installation package from the Additional Software tab of the Quartus^® Prime Download Center:
     • Intel Quartus Prime Pro Edition Design Software for Linux
     • Intel Quartus Prime Pro Edition Design Software for Windows
  2. Follow the instructions for upgrading the Intel^® HLS Compiler in an existing Quartus^® Prime installation in one of following sections:
     • Installing the Intel HLS Compiler Pro Edition on Linux Systems
     • Installing the Intel HLS Compiler Pro Edition on Microsoft Windows Systems

  If you have multiple Quartus^® Prime installations, upgrade or add the Intel^® HLS Compiler in each installation.

• Install the Intel^® HLS Compiler Pro Edition into its default installation directory and set the QUARTUS_ROOTDIR_OVERRIDE environment variable to point to the Quartus^® Prime Standard Edition or Quartus^® Prime Lite Edition installation that you want the Intel^® HLS Compiler to use for Cyclone^® V device support.
  1. Download the Intel^® High Level Synthesis Compiler installation package from the Additional Software tab of the Quartus^® Prime Download Center:
     • Intel Quartus Prime Pro Edition Design Software for Linux
     • Intel Quartus Prime Pro Edition Design Software for Windows
  2. Run the Intel^® HLS Compiler standalone installer and accept the default installation location.

  If you have multiple Quartus^® Prime installations, confirm that the QUARTUS_ROOTDIR_OVERRIDE environment variable points to the Quartus^® Prime installation that you want the Intel^® HLS Compiler Pro Edition to use. The environment variable must be set correctly before you initialize the Intel^® HLS Compiler Pro Edition environment.

  Remember: (Linux only) If you use ModelSim^® - Intel^® FPGA Edition provided with Quartus^® Prime Standard Edition, you must have additional 32-bit libraries installed. Refer to Intel HLS Compiler Pro Edition Backwards Compatibility for details.
